About the Vendor:TorchBearer Sauces was founded by Vid, Ben, and Tim, three guys in their 20s with a knack for creating tasty condiments, fiery hot sauces, and tasty recipes with them. Besides creating a range of table sauces and enough recipes to fill a book, TorchBearer has also been turning heads with the world’s first habanero cheesecake.
So how did TorchBearer start, you ask? Well, like many great inventions, the sauce itself started as a fluke. Vid and Ben just happened to have lots of extra habaneros in their gardens that they didn’t want to go to waste. As a result, they decided to create a habanero preserve. Little did they know that it ended up tasting better than anything on the market —so, naturally, they decided to share a good thing.
The three guys took a few days off work, drove from Pennyslvania to Texas—and back (over 72 hours!)—and picked up 666 pounds of habanero peppers. They spent two weeks of chopping, bagging, and freezing the peppers so they’d have enough for the upcoming winter. It wasn’t long before they were making all the sauces themselves, by hand.
Armed with temporary labels and their first full batch of sauce, it was now time to see if the world was ready. The guys went down to the Cajun Hot Sauce Festival in Louisiana and won three national awards with their sauces. More awards started coming and it wasn’t long before the word started getting out. The End.
Okay, well not quite The End. The guys are still hitting the hot sauce festivals and coming up with new concoctions all the time.

About the Vendor:
Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. That statement has hung over me for most of my adult life. Every time I heard it, I would think about unicorns and rainbows rather than real world. But, after decades of work for others, I finally get it.
I was born right here in Winter Harbor back when it had a Naval base that my father was stationed at. After his discharge, I moved with my parents to the NYC area and was raised there. I too served in the Navy and after I got out, worked mostly in the auto industry. First in sales and later as a trainer. But I always wondered what life would have been like in Winter Harbor. However, work and opportunities took me in different directions.
After one of those opportunities took me to live in the Carolinas for a few years, I became totally enamored with barbecue. I ate it, traveled to find it, learned the key differences and ultimately began cooking that way. I even began experimenting with different spices for rubs.
As luck would have it, I had the chance to return to Maine and I actually purchased the house my father lived in till he passed away. The town had all the trappings of Maine tourist attractions, but the rest of the year, it was very quiet. I also noted that many young people were moving away for better opportunities at the same time local Veterans were looking for reasons to stay.
“Do what you love…”
What if I could combine a love of barbecue with a Maine attitude, grow a company that hired young veterans and helped keep Winter Harbor vibrant year-round? I would need to make a rub that had Maine flavors and could be used indoors when weather was harsh. It had to be more than just a dry rub. Mainers like to have things with multiple uses. That’s the tradition and the common sense that makes everyone so resilient.
Blending standard rub spices with real Maine ingredients like organic blueberry powder, maple crystals and even Raye’s Mustard (the oldest mustard company in America) helped create our original DownEast Dinnah (pronounced dinn – uh) Dust. Later, we added honey crystals and chipotle to the mustard and blueberry and created our “Honey ‘n HEAT” flavor. And I loved every minute spent creating, mixing, bottling and sharing.
Now, we’re looking to grow so I can hire talented Veterans from the area so they can earn a quality living, get training and keep their families right here. If you’d like a real taste of Maine, give us a try and I promise not to disappoint you. And for every month that you spread the word and help us sell just 10,000 bottles, we can hire one Veteran full-time.

About: Our Southern Sauce is blended with the same seasonings, ingredients, and care used by M.E. Griffin when he developed the original recipe in the kitchen of his home in Macon, Georgia. Today, Mrs. Griffin’s is made in Macon in small batches and bottled with you in mind. If you’re a fan of our sauce we appreciate your loyalty and support. If you’ve never tried Mrs. Griffin’s, “Ask your friends how good it is, they’ll know.”
The Original flavor of Mr. Griffin's Barbecue Sauce is a mild blend of premium ingredients to produce a succulent sauce that can be applied to any meat you like, to bring out the best of meat flavor. To help tenderize you grilled meat of choice, marinate with the sauce before grilling. You'll end up with a tender, succulent meal. The various ingredients of the sauce are mixed not cooked in a 60 gallon vat. The process, which takes 4 days, includes 12 steps to combining the ingredients. The sauce is then mixed between 3 and 4 hours before bottling.
About the Vendor: Mrs. Griffin’s Barbecue Sauce was founded by Mangham Griffin, born in 1899. He created a special BBQ sauce that he made for his family’s Fourth of July Picnic every year. Everyone loved his sauce and his brother suggested he bottle some and bring it to his grocery store. He brought 12 bottles and his brother sold them before Mr. Griffin could even get home.
Griffin started the family-run business in 1935 with the family making sauce in their kitchen. He called his special sauce Mrs.Griffin’s Barbecue Sauce in honor of his wife. In 1949, he built a plant in downtown Macon. Business quickly expanded throughout Middle Georgia and sales increased. He retired in 1965.
The company, now owned by Roland Neel, continues to run “in the tradition set by Griffin 75 years ago.” The various ingredients of the sauce are mixed - not cooked - in a 60 gallon vat. The process, which takes 4 days, includes 12 steps to combining the ingredients. The sauce is then mixed between 3 and 4 hours before being ready for bottling. Unique because it is mustard-based.
